How To Start a blog In Nigeria- Beginner’s Guide in Blogging

Blogging, as we all know, is currently one of the most trending online businesses; as close to hundreds of blogs are being set up on daily basics. Yet, how to start a blog in Nigeria especially becomes a major issue some times.

Nigeria as a Country is a land full of opportunities. Though the issue of employment amongst young people still surface, the internet sphere has been a sort of employment site for young Nigerians.

And one of these medium to earn legally one the internet is through “Blogging”.

WHAT IS BLOGGING?

Before I go on, I want to believe that the reason you are reading this post right now is because you own a blog but don’t know how to make money from it; you know a little about blogging and want to know more; or probably you don’t know what blogging is about. So there is a need to break down what a blog is, so we can be on track.

A “Blog” is a short form of a “Weblog” and it is used to describe different websites or portals that shares information on certain specific topics or broad categories.

So in defining blogging and who a blogger is, we can simply say, “Blogging is the act of running a weblog while a Blogger is someone who administers or runs a weblog”.

TIPS ON HOW TO START A BLOG.

Making money blogging is the no.1 thing or goal on the mind of most (90%) bloggers. This is because blogging as a whole takes a lot of work and sacrifices in which, most of the time, large amount of money is being spent to start up and run these blogs.

1.) Pick the right niche for your blog.

This is perhaps the first thing to consider when starting up a blog. This is because picking a niche that you are interested in or passionate about and probably have little knowledge about helps you stay fresh in contents and prevents you from tiring out quickly.

Asides the above reason, another main reason for choosing the right niche to blog about is, it helps you get ranked high on google due to the amount of traffic you’ll attract as a “Specific niche blogger”.

Well, few bloggers might tend to disagree with this, simply because we have few bloggers earning so much money blogging on multiple niches on the same blog. This is so true, but you’ll agree with me that it takes tons of extra effort, time and in most cases money due to the fact that some of these bloggers are faced with the load of posting on all categories and in some cases, pay freelancers to write for them in order to keep on.

2.)Choose your blogging platform

The next step of action after choosing your niche is choosing the blogging platform to run your blog on. There are various blogging platforms to choose from, but the two most popular platforms remains WordPress and Blogger. But if you’d ask for my opinion, I’d suggest wordpress and this is because of its level of flexibility and functionality; and for this reason, we have cases of bloggers from other platforms moving over to WordPress.

3.)Pick a domain and hosting plan

Just like every business needs a business name, every blog(which is also a business if you ask me) needs to have a domain name. A domain can either be a free domain(no cost) or custom domain(little cost).

The domain is basically the URL of your website. Examples: google.com (Google.com is the domain name), Facebook.com (Facebook.com is the domain name).

A Hosting provider is basically the company that puts your website up on the internet so it can be accessible by everyone. Everything will be saved there. Think of it as a computer hard-drive on the internet where your blog will be saved. It’s that simple!

An example of a free domain is ‘www.example.blogspot.com’ or ‘www.example.wordpress.com’. It is free and does not require any form of payment to start with.

A custom domain on the other hand requires a form of payment to get. An example of a custom domain is www.Entreprehub.com .

4.)Set up your blog

Now that you are done with the domain and hosting, the next thing to do is set up your blog. This involves setting up the appropriate design and template for you blog so as to make it look professional.

Make your blog look exactly how you want it to. To choose a new theme, you can either head to Appearance > Themes and install a free wordpress theme or you can head for a premium theme to purchase one.

WordPress also has this awesome feature that allows you change themes with just a few clicks. So if you start getting tired of your current blog template, you can just switch to another one without losing any of your precious content or images.

5.)Start blogging all the way

Now that your blog is set, you can start blogging all the way, creating quality contents to educate and inform your audience

As you begin your journey to blogging, you need to have these in mind

Blogging is not a get rich quick scheme

Probably, this is the bitter truth no one told you about. Blogging is a very genuine means of making money online but believe me, it requires a lot of effort, patience and determination. A lot of people who get into blogging get into it because they probably heard about a blogger who is earning so much that he now has a property or lots of cars and they believe he made all of that in a week or two.

SEOs are the real deal

Search engine optimization(SEO), like I would always say, is the motor that drives your website up to the top in Google rankings. There are lots of SEO tools to benefit from. Learn everything you can about off-site and on-site SEOs and implement them to take your blog to greater heights.
